Echocardiography or echo, is a painless test that uses sound waves to create moving pictures of your heart. The pictures show the size and shape of your heart. They also show how well your heart's chambers and valves are working. This test is done on a Colour Doppler Machine. At EHL Diagnostics we have the most advanced machine for Echocardiography manufactured by GE Medical USA. This machine gives very accurate measurements of the various cardiac parameters. Our Cardiologist has a long experience of more than 20 years in the field of Preventive and minimally invasive Cardiology.
Echo also can pinpoint areas of heart muscle that aren't contracting well because of poor blood flow or injury from a previous heart attack. A type of echo called Doppler ultrasound shows how well blood flows through your heart's chambers and valves. A healthy heart must have an Ejection Fraction of 60% which means that each time your heart contracts it pumps 60% of the blood from the Left Ventricle to the Aorta. If the ejection fraction is low it means that heart will have to work more to pump the same amount of blood and this may slowly lead to heart failure. So getting an echocardiography regularly is a cheap and effective way of finding about the health of your heart.
Echoccardiography can detect many heart problems. Some might be minor and pose no risk to you. Others can be signs of serious heart disease or other heart conditions. An echocardiogram is key in determining the health of the heart muscle, especially after a heart attack. It can also reveal heart defects in unborn babies. If you’re diagnosed with a heart condition, your doctor will work with you to develop a treatment plan that works best for you.
